How to troubleshoot an unrecognized USB

Universal Serial Bus (USB) is a connection technology widely accepted by hardware manufacturers as a standard for connecting peripheral devices to computers. Numerous devices support USB connectivity, including storage units, printers, webcams and portable media players. USB non-recognition problems can occur for several reasons. You can take a number of steps to solve these problems.

Here is the 6 Simple Steps to troubleshoot an unrecognized USB

1. Disconnect the device from the USB port on the computer. Wait for about 10 seconds and reconnect the device.
2. Switches the USB device from one port on the computer to another.

3.Turn off the computer and unplug it from the power outlet. Wait about five minutes. Plug it in again and restart the system.

4. Click “Start” and type “Windows Update” in the search bar. Press Enter. Click the “Check for Updates” option on the left side of the window. Let Windows search the Internet for updates. Click the “See Available Updates” link if Windows finds updates. Put a checkmark next to the Windows driver updates you find and click “Install.”

5.Download an updated driver for the unrecognized device and save it to your desktop. Press the Windows and R keys at the same time.A “Run” window will appear. Type “devmgmt.msc” and press Enter. Locate the “Universal Serial Bus Controllers” section and double click on it to expand the selection.

6.Right-click the yellow USB driver icon and select the “Update driver software” option. Select “Search for driver software on my computer”, click “Browse” and then select the driver that is located on your desktop. Click “Next” and allow the computer to install the driver and click “Close”. Restart the system.
